Sleep accounts for a significant portion of each day, so it would be a shame if it wasn't being used efficiently by our bodies. By paying better attention to the day-time activities that can affect your sleep, you will maximise the value your body draws from sleep. This is the goal of good sleep hygiene.

It would be a mistake to simplify good sleep hygiene to the level of an evening "wind-down checklist". But unfortunately, especially in mass-media, this is the popular opinion. Instead, good sleep hygiene is a collection choices that are made right throughout the day. This is because the things you do in the evening, the afternoon and even the early morning of a given day can all affect your sleep quality at the end of it.
